To my dear ISPRM Friends and Family:
Although the 2019 Congress is Kobe is yet to happen, it is never too early to invite you to the 14th ISPRM World Congress to be held in Orlando, Florida, USA, on 4th - 9th March, 2020. This will be the first time the Congress will be held in the continental United States in partnership with the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP), the largest academic organization in the field of physical and rehabilitation medicine.
Following the accomplishments of prior congresses and what is expected to be yet another successful one in Kobe, the ISPRM 2020 Congress will feature a strong scientific program that will advance the knowledge and skills of physiatrists and PRM specialists around the world. Keynote presentations, courses and special lectures will showcase the latest and evidence-based advances in clinical practice, education, research, administration and advocacy that bridge the role of rehabilitation from “cell to society”. Among the topics will be regenerative rehabilitation, personalized rehabilitation, Rehabilitation 2030, musculoskeletal and pain medicine, healthy longevity, early rehabilitation, rehabilitation technology, among others. Invited speakers are world-renowned for their expertise, including a Nobel laureate, who will present the 2020 Presidential Lecture. We will announce the roster of keynote and plenary speakers in the coming months.
It has been almost 20 years ago when the ISPRM was “born” in the USA, following the merger of the International Rehabilitation Medicine Association and the International Federation of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. In March 2020, we are delighted to bring back the ISPRM to its birthplace and sincerely wish that you will be able to join us in this celebration of international collaboration!

Field of Competence ebook on the role of PRM physicians for patients with different health conditions or related topics of PRM interest (part I and now also part II) free available online
The Professional Practice Committee (PPC) of the Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) section of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) is working to ensure best standards in professional practice of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) in prevention, clinical management and rehabilitation throughout Europe.
The main focus of the Professional Practice Committee is the description and development of the Field of Competence (FoC) of the PRM physician in Europe. FoC is an umbrella term for expertise, skills and professionalism of PRM physicians as well as the way of cooperating and interacting with other medical specialties and health professionals. The role of PRM in different settings (“from acute hospitals to the community”) and the parameters for the access to specialised PRM programmes are included. Therefore the PPC, since 2009, has been preparing a series of papers describing the role of PRM physicians for patients with different health conditions or related topics of PRM interest. These papers are being published in medical journals cooperating with the UEMS PRM Section and are part of the ebook on the Field of Competence.
The PPC e-book part I was published in 2014, including 16 papers. (Editors: C. Gutenbrunner, A. Delarque, V. Neumann) accessible via this website.link
Part III of the ebook is under preparation. Whereas Part I covered some overarching topics such as PRM over the health phases or team working, Part II was focused on health conditions only, as are the topics for part III up to now but other topics, for example related to diagnostics or therapeutic interventions will also be considered.
Even though this initiative started from Europe, we are convinced that these papers and consequently both ebooks are relevant for PRM colleagues across the world and we welcome you to read and spread the papers.
