Andrew J. Haig, M.D.
Associate Professor
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
and Orthopedic Surgery
The University of Michigan
ISPMR North American Vice President
Dr. Haig is an Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Surgery at The University of Michigan,
and president of Rehabilitation Team Assessments, LLC, a company that
consults in rehabilitation program development. A specialist in
industrial and international rehabilitation, he founded The Spine
Program at Michigan, and has published over 60 scientific articles in
areas ranging from electrodiagnosis to back pain to brain injury to
leadership and teamwork. Dr. Haig is president of the American Academy
of PM+R's International Rehabilitation group and founder of The
International Rehabilitation Forum, a consortium of top academic
programs interested in international issues.
North America represents the largest group of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation specialists in the world, and houses some of the most
advanced academic programs. Due to geographic distance and very strong
national organizations, it is a challenge to get the majority of North
American physiatrists involved in international organizations. The
national organizations strongly support ISPRM, and we are working
together to promote the organization by showing both the political
relevance of international rehabilitation and the ability for members to
meaningfully impact the care of those in less developed regions of the
world.
