PRM in Europe

Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine is a recognised medical speciality in all European countries. However, the postgraduate education and the rehabilitation systems differ largely from country to country. Therefore the European Certificate for Physical and rehabilitation Medicine is of major significance for the specialty. In Europe three main bodies exist in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine:

  • The Section Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) (President: Anthony Ward, UK): a professional association
  • The European Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ESPRM) (President: Henk Stam, The Netherlands), a scientific society
  • The European Academy of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (EAPRM)(President: Anne Chamberlain, UK), focussing on ethics

Additionally there are societies with a regional focus:

  • The Mediterranean Forum of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (President: Nicholas Christodolou, Cyprus)
  • The Baltic Forum of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (in foundation)
